Important Factors to Consider When Buying Video Editing Processor

CPUs that are meant for editing videos are different from the gaming CPUs. When buying a processor for content creation, you must take in to notice the following points.

Cores/Threads

Content creation software uses a lot of computing power to work properly. The software makes use of every single core available to render your videos at a fast rate.

A normal video editing rig must pack at least six cores to function properly. Threads also play their part in boosting the rendering process of a video.

Our chart of best processors for video editing pack come up with least 12 threads. Except the Intel Core i5 -9600K that has six threads. 12 threads can do their part for a fast video rendering process.

AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3970X comes with 64 cores, this is way more than recommended 12 cores. But if you have tons of workload and more budget, there is nothing better than the Threadripper to get at the moment.

Well, if a 6 cores processor with 12 threads can take good care of your videos, then why should you spend over $1500 for just a single processor to edit videos.

Clock Speed

Clock speed plays a great role in video editing rigs. The more the clock speed, faster it is to render your videos. A CPU with less cores but higher clock speed is way better than CPU with more cores and low clock speed.

More cores and clock speed play a great part in editing videos at 4K or 8K resolution.

The Bottom Line

Finally, choosing a processor for video editing depends upon your workload and budget. If you are a video animator, video game designer or video producer, then AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3970X, Intel Core i9 109200X, and Ryzen 9 3950X are the best we have to offer.

For social media or YouTube content creation, processors like Ryzen 7 3700X and Core i5-9600K are the best options in the market.
